Interview with (Mirco Jakse) Adolf of Censor Design
What is your alias? If you find the story interesting, then let us know how you came up with it?
My Nick? Adolf... Well, one day Bob and Dr.Cool called me up and wanted to introduce the newest member in Censor Design, "Oh, who?" i said and they told me it was Adolf... "Oh?" i said again, and then they explained that was me.. "Oh..." i said...
Have you changed handles? If so, give us the reason(s) and your previous nickname(s)!
As the first question/anwer indicates i wasn't called Adolf until i joined Censor.. My previous nickname was Toad and the one before that Mini Man...
When and where were you born and where do you live now?
Uhh, I was born in Stockholm in a warm summer night (i dont actually know if it was warm outside, but it was warm where i was.. not that i remember that either ofcourse) in 1975... I Live in Stockholm now... Although i have been living in alot of different places..
When did you get your first computer and which computers do/did you own? When did you get your C64?
My first computer? Umm, could it be 1983? It was a ZX Spectrum 48k.. And i remember playing umm.. Jet Pack, Manic Miner, Danger Mouse, Raid over Moscow, Zaxon... And this game where u were walking up a roller coaser for some reason.. can't remember.. just thought about it realy, loved it.. I bought my first 64 in the winter of 1986... I think...
How did you get to know the scene? Who was your first contact (person you knew) on the scene?
Well, i was more or less dragged into the scene by Dr.Cool, whom i've known all my life...
Describe your scene career, including all groups you have been a member of! Keep chronological order please!
Well, as i said i was 'introduced' into the scene by Dr.Cool.. he gave me some adresses (he also named me Mini Man :/) and i started contacting ppl.. i got some answers and started swapping (how's that for a start, ehh?) .. Anyway.. i started painting in Koala Painter and Font Editor... Sent out some samples.. and Joined a norwegian crew called Magic Science... Not being very productive i joined a german crew called Share, and i changed my handle to Toad... They did some cracks, released a demor or 2.. then nothing... Well, by this time i'd actually learned to do some graphics.. And i did a logo for Galaxy, which was the crew Dr.Cool was in at the moment.. They were impressed and i joined Galaxy.. Releasing lots of cracks (and even a few first releases) i kinda like Galaxy.. Anyway, Galaxy fell apart (dont remember why) and i joined Paramount along with Mr.Stack... For a while warez were flowing.. but suddenly it stopped.. Nothing new for several weeks.. So i left.. I Joined S451 for a (few hours :) at the V†rby party in 19-humm-89?90?.. Left them for a Finish crew called Motion, not the best of crews, but good enough.. Anyways.. I lost interest for a while and got away from the scene for a few months... Then Euzkera was putting together a crew called Salezar, we were starting some things, however nothing happened.. Then one day Dr.Cool and Bob called me and told me i just joined Censor Design and changed my handle to Adolf... Ok i said, and all of a sudden i was a member of Censor Design... In Censor Design, as u can imagine, life was good... Anyway.. I dont realy know what happened, but Dr.Cool decided to create his own crew and asked me if i wanted to join in.. Sure i said, and then i was in Victims... Victims ruled hard for a year or so.. then split up.. So i went back and joined Censor again... Where i have been ever since...
Which scene do/did you consider best and why? If you have been only on the C64, then give us the reason(s)!
There is no other scene even worth talking of.. I've tried the amiga, the pc.. But they can't compare to the c64 scene.. it's a once in a lifetime experience!
What do you think you gained by being a member of the scene?
My way of thinking.. Deffinitly.. and there's SID-music... Oh, and lot's of friends...
What do you consider lost, wasted or meaningless during the years you have spent on the scene?
There are other things?
What is/are/was/were your main interest(s)/function(s)?
I was mainly a swapper and gfxman... Actually, that sums it up, i WAS a swapper and a gfx man... Oh, i also had a BBS and i did alot of overseas trading..
What made you start doing graphics/composing/swapping/modem trading organising or whatever you did?
Seemed like a good idea... Swapping was necessary at the time, And gfx was fun... When i got the modem life was a dance on roses...
What are/were your greatest successes/fiascos?
I have no fiascos!! No great successes either i suppose..
Was there any special connection between you/your group and some other people/groups on the scene (co-operation, war, friendship etc.)? If so, what made it start and stop?
Ouch.. LOTS!! The most fun parts were with (or should i say against) Gene who was in Illusion at the time...
Have you attended parties? Tell us about your favourite conferences? You can even mention some fiascos.
umm.. the best party? i guess i had alot of fun at the Tribute party... And the X97... The worst party is for sure the B†lsta party in 1990 or was it 1991? Anyway, we were thrown out (and i was asleep when it happened, so i didnt know what was going on).
Is/was there any special feeling in your crew, something more than just being in a group?
Oh yeah, all I can say is Party on!!
If you are not a C64 scener anymore, when and why did you leave the scene?
I'm still hanging around.. mostly on the net though...
What were your favourite groups/artists/coders/productions? Why do/did you like their work/these programs?
Well, except for Censor Design, humm , i always liked Ikari.. They were a good team of crackers.. My favourite demo group (except for Censor) is probably Horizon... Or maybe Crest...
What is your profession? What do you do for a living? Does it have to do anything with computers? Is there anything you do in real-life that is similar to what you have been doing on the scene?
Right now i'm studying Virtual Reality.. We'll see where it goes from there... I'm still doing graphics :)...
How did your attitude towards computers change during the years?
It started out as a little bit of fun.. now i'm addicted for life... And they say alcohol is dangerous.. huh..
What do you like doing in your spare-time when not computing? What is/are your hobby(ies)?
I have no other life, no seriously.. i'm training, partying and just, well, living a life..
Are there moments when you feel nostalgic thinking back to the past years of the scene? If so what do you do when it happens?
Everytime i listen to a piece of SID, every time i see a 64 pic, every time i enter #c-64 on IRC, everytime i see my c64.. Should i go on?
What are your plans for the near/far future?
Finish my education, get a job, work, die..
What is your goal in life? What would you like to achieve?
I'd like to transfer my brain into binary language.. like that guy in Lawnmover man.. I'd make the phones ring all over the world!! Hehe.. yeah, I'd like that..
