Introduction

No Name is a C64-only group. Before The Party 4 we have not been too well known around.. There we invented and released a routine running 4 8-Bit sample channels on a standard C64. Since then our coding skills have improved, and at The Party 5 we got a 5th place in the C64-democompo with "Voodoo People". Here we also released the first realtime zoom-rotate-tilter on the C64, in the demo Obscene Code. This demo also features a joy-controlled doomclone.

At the party both Antic and No Name released joy-controlled doomclones, so also here we were one of the first groups doing that effect.

Hello, most of you probably know me, when I introduce my handle to you, you maybe know that i am not in the scene anymore. Anyway, Celtic asked me if I could write a story about No Name, as I am the only one left who was with from the beginning (ex-No Name and ex-c64 scene).

The Story

It started back in 1991. I have begun to swap old demos with a guy. this guy was none less then Gobus/No Name. He and Dr.Dos (later he renamed into Neil) was two guys who released some notes under the No Name label. The time went by, and the group that i have formed (named Byte, we were only two members) died because of the other member selling his c64 and buying an amiga. So now i was alone in Byte and called up Michael (Gobus) and asked for a fusion between the two group. He agreed and i joined No Name, a decision i have never regretted. Now things began to go fast (not because of me). At first we gained a member, who quikly left us again for no reason, Gobo; then The Champ joined us as coder, artist and musician.

In the summer of 1992, i released my first demo for No Name called Crazy World 1. And i immediatly began coding the sequal (by the way, the demo wqs no success!). In that summer we also gained some other members, TMB (not the previous Nastiness inc.), Alfa, Krax, Nexus (later Bono). In late summer we released another short demo, called "show must go on!" (yes, after the queen song) and here I presented my first DYCP ever on this computer. In the autumn hollidays of 1992 we had a meeting in Copenhagen with guys from Collision (now Palace) and with Technoir/brutal (one of the best coders ever on this machine).

Yoko and Yoda joined us for a while but left for Collision soon. Things went on quitly for the rest of the year. in january we released a short happy b-day demo called 'One year No Name'. In april of 1993, Gobus, Bono,Dr.Dos (neil), and I decided to try doing a disk magazine. we had some different names, Violent Desire, No news is good news, but I was the winner with my suggestion Chit Chat (which i hear is no longer alive... but H-Bloxx/Acrise&Excess didn't like it either, it was not worthy to be alive... baah!). In june, I released my second demo for No Name, Crazy World II, including including a secret part (whihc nobody could find!) and a special disk system which only worked 33% of the time, so that was no success either, eventhough i got some good critisism back.

The summer, 1993, Alfa and Krax left us, and TMB was dumbed out, Scorpio (a decent cracker) joined together with Hawk (The Champ's younger brother). Also The Authentic joined us for a week or so because of a better offer (still alive S0ren?). Gobus also persuaded one of his friends to join, RÝr, who is still alive.

So the time came, christmas 1993 was a cool time with The Party III where, Gobus, Dr.Dos;r0r and i showed up as the only No Namers. here we had an excellent time, we tried to fnish a demo, but failed ofcourse, during annoying amiga freaks and the fact that we talked to much with others then we spent time on coding.

January 1994 want on with Al joining (a swapper), so did the next cuople of months with no changes. Then suddenly Scorpio dissapeared, but we gained some new members. First of all, Ghostrider and Cyberbrain (now the leaders of No Name and very talented coders). Then Mad Man and Tristar/Rebels joined. And two months later, Celtic of Genlog (at that time, now only No Name) joined as a second group together with Jer/panic (second group). In august, Dr.dos (Neil) decided to leave the scene and i was promoted co-leader of the group. Just a month before I becme main editor of Chit Chat because of Bone leaving for the military. And in september the two first (active for No Name) musicians we ever had joined: Booker/Caution and Rap (now /Onslaught). I will return with Booker, but as far as i know Rap has developed to be a pretty good musician. In october, The Champ was kicked because of lazyness, and Hawk left us months ago with no sign of life. A couple of days later The Stophlord (now Scatman) and Sleepwalker joined.

Again it was party, the party IV came and we have finished a demo including a revolutionary effect, the '4 channel 8 bit samples', a routine which Perff, Cyberbrain and Ghostrider have improved now (Perff was the original coder on it). On that party some cool things happened, Perff and Quac joined and took part in the demo, Crazy World III that we have competed with the wild competition and gained 8th place after all those amigas and pc's. I also remember a guy told me that he saw Reflex tearing their hairs apart when seeing Perff's routine. And... The scandal. Time showed that Booker had ripped the music that i used in the end for the demo (CW3) from Zyron/Antic and Zyron was ofcourse very angry at Booker. But luckily Zyron is a tolerant pascifist (hey Johan, still going strong?) and so, Booker got no injuries except for the fact that he was kicked out of No Name a few days later. But I think Booker has learned from this now and never do it again.

Anyway, 1995 arrived with the sad message that Gobus, my friend through three years decided to leave the scene for real. The last thing he did was to appoint me as leader of No Name. With Warp/equinoxe also leaving the scene later, my interest in the scene lowered very much. In the beginning of the summer of 1995 Domix (ex-Collision) joined as a coder, and later Vague joined (before he called himself Gonzo).

After my summer holidays at Rhodes I finally took the decision and made farewell demo and quited the scene. In my farewell note to the No Namers i appointed both Cyberbrain and Ghostrider to the new leaders, and i know they are doing well.

I (Celtic) will continue from summer 1995, where Gigabyte left.

At the summer Ghostrider visited Holland and we made some plans for a demo. After I heard Gigabyte left Ithought No Name would die. But luckily Ghostrider and Cyberbrain wanted to put the group back in shape. Vague left us because he thought we would die for sure. The leadership of No Name was good again and we wanted to make a comeback.

At 16 Ocktober 1995 Genlog died and the active members joined No Name, those were Maestro, Mad mat and Funxilla. I already was in No Name and made it my first group. Also I became some sort of an organiser of the illegal section (and legal a bit too). Then sadly Rap let No Name and all his other groups to join Onslaught. For personal reasons he doesn't want to have a second group. But he told us he would be making musics for us whenever we want him too. After him, Domix kicked himself for his big lazyness.

At The Party V we released two demos. one was coded entirely by Cyberbrain called Voodoo People and another one by Perff and Ghostrider called Obscene code. We took the 5th and 10th place in the compo. Obscene Code contained a firsty in demo coding too, it was the zoom-rotate-tilter. A great part. We made plans for a new demos too.

In february a new talented coder called Jiminy joined us and is still in here. Also a musician and sysop called Ramosa joined us. Jer/panic left us to join Laxity as second group. Only in beginning of june JB/Megaunit, a very talented full-screen graphician joined us as second group. Later on Funxilla got his big break and he joined SCS & TRC. Becuase of that we needed new swappers, so Vampire/fraction joined to enforce the polish front and Almight God/Desert Nomads joined too. Afterwards we decided to kick both Tristar and Scatman for extreme lazyness.

At this moment i am typing this at the No Name meeting, and we will see what happens in the next few months.
