Interview with (Marcin Makowski) El Banditos of SCS * TRC

What is your alias? If you find the story interesting, then let us know how you came up with it?

My nick is El Banditos.

Have you changed handles? If so, give us the reason(s) and your previous nickname(s)!

Nope, i have always been El Banditos, and I thought over only some shorties, as for example El Banditos is too long to be used on IRC.. I like this handle, poeple say it is a bit orginal, and what's more important, I am know as El Banditos...

When and where were you born and where do you live now?

I was born on 10.01.80, in the capitol of Poland, Warsaw, where I live

When did you get your first computer and which computers do/did you own? When did you get your C64?

My first computer was a C64, I found it under xmas tree in 92, i believe.. in those times it was really modern xmas gift, many of my friends owned a C64...

How did you get to know the scene? Who was your first contact (person you knew) on the scene?

I was swaping games with some guys which addies I found in Polish commercial paperzine Commodore & Amiga.. One time one of them send me some Polish disk magazines, i read them and liked a lot, I wanted to be a part of this community.. My first contact was a polish guy, Ice / Lepsi /brother of Sebaloz / Lepsi/...

Describe your scene career, including all groups you have been a member of! Keep chronological order please!

Well, I started in early 95, my first group was Tubular Jobs, a small Polish gang.. Then, somewhere about holidays'95 i got proposition from turkish Bronx, and I accepted.. After Bronx died, some of the ex-Bronx members built up Ascraeus, and i joined them too.. In dec'95 I left Tubular Jobs, and two month later I teamed up with Fatum... In April'96 /i believe/ I was already a member of SCS*TRC, after leaving Fatum and Ascraeus.. later in 96 I joined also a young, promising Czech group called Unreal...

Which scene do/did you consider best and why? If you have been only on the C64, then give us the reason(s)!

I have no expierance in other scenes than C64..

What do you think you gained by being a member of the scene?

I met a lot of cool dudes, made some friends, and I had a lot of fun.. The friendship is the thing which keeps me here...

What do you consider lost, wasted or meaningless during the years you have spent on the scene?

Too much money for stamps and high phone bills.. :)

What is/are/was/were your main interest(s)/function(s)?

Mainly I am a swaper, i do also some suppliting for SCS*TRC, a bit modem trading if I have a card...

What made you start doing graphics/composing/swapping/modem trading organising or whatever you did?

Well, as about swaping.. I started with this.. it is really easy, you just have to WANT to do it, and then it is easy to be good.. as about modem trading, i just wanted to check myself what's this...

What are/were your greatest successes/fiascos?

Being awarded by Relax as a swaper of a year, being four times 1st on swaper charts in The Tribune... as about fiascos? seeing that everything on C64 is so close to death...

Was there any special connection between you/your group and some other people/groups on the scene (co-operation, war, friendship etc.)? If so, what made it start and stop?

Yeah, there was a war with small lamers in Poland /Senti / Oxygen, John Donn / Mad+Bad, Heartshade / Oxygen etc/, as they wanted to beat me or my friends up... Just some rags in polish zines, nothing really serious... as about co-operation, check our story on and friendship, as i said, it keeps me on the scene..

Have you attended parties? Tell us about your favourite conferences? You can even mention some fiascos.

Yeah, 8 or 9 Polish parties.. the worst was my first one, in Tarnow'95, the best were Gravity'96, Intel Outside 3, Bartoszyce'97.. Especially Bartoszyce was a cool party...

Is/was there any special feeling in your crew, something more than just being in a group?

Nope.. I think I live too far to the other members, no chances for me to attend one of the meetings in the Netherlands and so on...

If you are not a C64 scener anymore, when and why did you leave the scene?

I am still a C64 scener...

What were your favourite groups/artists/coders/productions? Why do/did you like their work/these programs?

Crest and Censor, those demos have always been styled, and bringing something new to C64 world... As about musicans, I like the old-good musicans, the Vibrants, Maniacs of Noise and so on...

What is your profession? What do you do for a living? Does it have to do anything with computers? Is there anything you do in real-life that is similar to what you have been doing on the scene?

I am a student of secondary school.. Once I coded shade bobs in turbo pascal on computer-science lessons, which amazed my teacher. :)

How did your attitude towards computers change during the years?

It is much harder to amaze me these days... :)

What do you like doing in your spare-time when not computing? What is/are your hobby(ies)?

I enjoy meeting my friends, partying.. I train in a local footbal club.. /when not injured :)/...
